US Rep. Thomas Massie’s primary tomorrow is a Test of US Sovereignty
Paul Craig Roberts
Tomorrow we are going to learn if it is possible for a US Representative to represent his constituency and America’s interest instead of Israel’s and remain in office. Thomas Massie, a seven-term Representative from Kentucky’s 4th congressional district, has been targeted for political termination by the Israel Lobby and President Trump. In what looks to be the most expensive primary in history, the Israel Lobby has contributed mightily to the $30 million fund used to demonize Rep. Massie.
President Trump, of course, is acting for Israel and has dumped the demeaning language Trump has brought to the presidency all over Massie, calling him “a totally ineffective loser” and the “worst and most unreliable Republican Congressman in the history of our country.”
Massie, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, was a strong Trump supporter, but also like Greene refused to back off his criticism of Israel’s behavior, with the consequence that Trump turned on them viciously.
Trump’s representation of Israel is unbridled. It includes such extraordinary actions as moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem, US financial, military, and diplomatic support for Israel’s genocide of Palestine, and taking America to war with Iran for the Zionist agenda of Greater Israel. Trump comes across as Israel’s puppet, not as a national leader of a great power. Many now refer to MAGA as MIGA–Make Israel Great Again.
A spokesman for the United Democracy Project, a super political action committee, a PAC affiliate of AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, declared Massie “the most anti-Israel Republican in the House.” This is all it took to send Trump in action against Massie,
The Israel Lobby, which includes Trump, conflates criticism of Israel’s war crimes and genocidal policy with anti-semitism. In other words, the reasoning is that if a person’s moral conscience and sense of justice is activated by Israel’s deliberate murders of women, children, and nations, that person hates all Jews. Israel is the only country granted protection from criticism. A person can criticize US policies without being demonized for hating all Americans.
Tomorrow will tell us whether it is possible for a member of the US Congress to put American interests, morality, law, and justice before Israel’s interests and remain in office If Americans in Kentucky can be taken in by Israeli propaganda and abandon a representative of America, we will know that there is no hope for the American people.
