More Flock Cameras Removed Around Texas

Last week ended with more Texas cities stepping back from Flock Safety and its privatized mass surveillance program. Hunter Burney has the details.
The police departments in Manor and El Paso ended their relationships with Flock Safety, while the Leander City Council became the latest to freeze its use of the technology. A growing list of local government agencies are backing away from Flock in response to public frustrations.
Flock’s automated license plate readers use AI to scan license plates and save information about a vehicle, such as make, model, color, and other identifiers like cosmetic damage or bumper stickers. The company allows law enforcement officers to access its data without a warrant, raising concerns over potential violations of citizens’ Fourth Amendment rights.
