The White House account of the F-15 pilot’s rescue doesn’t make sense.
There is no explanation of how the helicopters and MC-130s got stuck in mud or sand but subsequent rescue aircraft did not. The White House story is that the stuck aircraft had to be destroyed by the US in order to keep their technology out of Iranian hands.
It is unclear why Ah-6 helicopters were used as the return trip exceeds their range.
The Iranians say they destroyed the aircraft and crews. The White House does not acknowledge any US casualties.
All in all a strange story.
