The Opportunity of the Mecca Alliance Might Be an Illusion
In my recent discussion with Sulaiman Ahmed, I made my case for expanding the Mecca agreement to include Iran in order to confront Israel with a mutual security alliance of 458,000,000 people armed with nuclear weapons. Such an alliance, if real, would make it clear to Israel that the agenda of Greater Israel was unrealistic. The result could be accommodation that brings peace to the Middle East.
After speaking with Sulaiman, I agree that hopeful optimism might have run away with me, as it is possible that the Mecca alliance is not real, that each of the three countries joined for their own reasons and not for their common defense. If this is the case, the opportunity I described is an illusion.
