NY Times declares the “novel of the decade if not the century” to be Marlon James’ story of gay experience and murderous homophobia in Jamaica–a Booker Prize winner. But we can’t read Huckleberry Finn because it has the word “nigger,” an ordinary non-demonized word at the time.
