Putin’s Ever-widening War Widens Further
Gilbert Doctorow reminds us that Putin’s 4.5 year long refusal to win a minor conflict has expanded into a war that has come home in devastating ways to Mother Russia. There has just been a major Ukrainian attack on St. Petersburg aided and supported by NATO countries. Putin’s strategic blunder has widened the conflict from Donbas into an openly supported NATO war against Russia.
“Overnight a Ukrainian drone attack on a major warehouse complex in the St Petersburg district of Pushkin set afire 82,000 square meters and brought out nearly 200 fire fighters and 56 fire trucks to contain the blaze. First, note that this attack could have been carried out only by Ukrainian drones overflying NATO countries to reach target in the northwest of Russia, that is to say the Baltic states and/or Finland are fully co-belligerents. Second, note that the site for the attack was chosen very well: Pushkin is home to military schools, to a military airport and to hospitals treating Russian soldiers who have been seriously wounded in the Special Military Operation. It likely does have military related warehousing. This attests to superior military intelligence and targeting information in the hands of the Ukrainians, all of which, like the drones themselves, were supplied by Western backers, including the U.K. and the USA.”
